We're updating how FishingBooker sends your mobile notifications. If you're a captain in Mexico or Aruba, the alerts you already receive by text message – booking requests, reminders, and trip updates – will start arriving through WhatsApp.
Here's everything you need to know.
What's changing?
Your FishingBooker notifications will be delivered through WhatsApp instead of SMS. The messages are exactly the same – same booking requests, same reminders. They'll just arrive in WhatsApp, on the phone number linked to your account.
When does this start?
This change rolls out starting August 1, 2026. You don't need to do anything to switch over – it happens automatically.
Do I need to do anything?
Just one quick check: make sure the phone number on your FishingBooker account is the same number connected to your WhatsApp. That way, your notifications arrive without a hitch.
To check your number:
- Open the FishingBooker Captain app (or log in on the web).
- Go to your account settings.
- Confirm your phone number is correct and up to date.
Will I still receive SMS?
Yes. SMS isn't going away. WhatsApp becomes your default notification channel, but we'll automatically fall back to SMS if:
- You don't have WhatsApp on the phone number linked to your account, or
- A WhatsApp message can't be delivered (for example, if you're offline).
In those cases, you'll receive the same notification by text – so you'll never miss a booking request.
Can I still control my notifications?
Yes. You're always in control of which notifications you receive – just manage them anytime in your notification settings.
The delivery method (WhatsApp or SMS) is handled automatically based on your region and phone number, so there's no channel to switch on or off.
Which notifications come through WhatsApp?
The same time-sensitive alerts you rely on today, including:
- New booking requests
- Booking reminders
- Important updates about your trips
I'm not receiving WhatsApp notifications. What should I do?
- Confirm the phone number on your FishingBooker account matches your WhatsApp number.
- Make sure WhatsApp is installed and set up on that phone.
- Check that notifications are enabled for WhatsApp in your phone's settings.
